Federal NDP candidate to join protest outside arms manufacturer conference

Ottawa South Federal NDP Candidate Morgan Gay will attend a demonstration being undertaken by activists in both the peace and environmental movements outside the EY Centre starting at 7 am the morning of May 29th.

Minister of Defence Harjit Sajjan is scheduled to speak that morning at the opening of CANSEC, Canada’s largest trade show for arms manufacturers sponsored by the Canadian Association of Defence and Security Industries.

“From refusing to sign the Nuclear Weapons Ban Treaty to Canadian weapons sales to Saudi Arabia to the current government’s failure to fully accede to the Arms Trade Treaty, the Trudeau government has failed to deliver. Canadians expect a government to be peacebuilding on the international stage, rather than supplying weaponry to human rights abusers” said Morgan Gay.

Due its horrendous human rights record and its participation in on-going atrocities in Yemen, several countries – including Sweden, Norway, Belgium and Finland - have suspended arms shipments to Saudi Arabia. Yet the Trudeau government continues to arm the Saudi regime.

Morgan Gay is a community organiser and activist based in Ottawa South. In addition to his community work, Morgan is the Co-Chair and co-founder of Pacifi, an organization promoting peace and nuclear disarmament
